Biography Biography
Pastor Malachi Haines, Sr., is one of six children raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where, as a teenager, he began his walk with the Lord. After being baptized in Jesus Name and receiving the Holy Ghost, young Haines allowed no grass to grow under his feet. Serving in leadership capacities from Usher Board President to Sunday School Teacher, young Pastor Haines excelled in the Word of God and was subsequently
called to the ministry at the young age of 18. Five years later, he was ordained an Elder to assist local Pastors and Evangelize.
As a 6 foot 8 inch athlete, Pastor Haines shined in sports and was offered numerous Collegiate Basketball Scholarships which he declined. Pastor Haines' commitment to Christ led him to trade in his NBA aspirations for education and service to God. In pursuit thereof, he attended Temple University, earning both a Bachelors of Science and Masters Degree in Education. Always thirsty for knowledge and driven by a conviction of personal diligence, Pastor Haines later earned a MBA and is currently a student at SMU Dedman School of Law.
As an Undergraduate, Pastor Haines met and fell in love with the lovely Gwendolyn Denise Davis, who is now his lovely wife of nearly 20 years and with whom he has raised two beautiful teenagers, Malachi, jr. and Brooke Monet. After 5 years of serving as a Secondary History Teacher, Pastor Haines heeded the call to Pastoralship and relocated his family to the Charlotte, NC area in 1998 where he consulted in Education, while successfully founding the Upper Room, of the Greater Highway Churches of Christ, Inc. in Marvin, North Carolina.
On the eve of the Upper Room's 11th Church Anniversary in 2009, Pastor Haines received the commission to expand the Kingdom of God
and has launched out to establish another ministry, Word Aflame, GHCOC in Plano near the Dallas, Texas area!
